Software Supply Chain Penetration Testing

Modern software is assembled from open-source packages, third-party services and automated build pipelines. Attackers know that compromising one dependency or one build step can reach thousands of targets at once. PeakCyber’s software supply chain penetration testing examines how code gets from a developer’s machine to production, and how an attacker could interfere along the way.

What is software supply chain security testing?

It is a hands-on assessment of the systems and processes that build, package and deliver your software: source repositories, dependencies, CI/CD pipelines, artifact registries and deployment tooling. We simulate realistic attacks to show where an adversary could inject malicious code or steal secrets.

What we assess

  • Dependencies: vulnerable, abandoned or typosquatted packages and dependency confusion exposure
  • Source control: branch protection, repository permissions, exposed secrets and commit signing
  • CI/CD pipelines: pipeline configuration abuse, over-privileged runners, secret exposure and poisoned pipeline execution
  • Build integrity: artifact signing, reproducibility and tampering opportunities
  • Registries and artifacts: container and package registry access control
  • Deployment paths: how build outputs are promoted to production
  • SBOM and visibility: whether you can see what is actually inside your software

Our approach

  1. Map your delivery pipeline end to end
  2. Review configuration and access across each stage
  3. Attempt realistic attack paths, such as injecting changes or extracting secrets
  4. Prioritize findings by impact on production
  5. Report with practical hardening guidance and retest

What you receive

  • Executive summary
  • Attack path descriptions with evidence
  • Prioritized remediation guidance
  • Recommendations for pipeline hardening and dependency governance
  • Retesting of fixed items

Frequently asked questions

1
Do you test our open-source dependencies directly?
We assess how you consume them and what risk they introduce in your environment, not the upstream projects themselves.
2
Which platforms do you cover?
We work with common platforms such as GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and popular CI/CD and registry tools. Share your stack and we will confirm.
