OT/ICS Cyber Security Services

Industrial environments run the processes that keep factories producing, power flowing and water clean. As operational technology (OT) connects to corporate IT networks, the cloud and remote vendors, it becomes exposed to risks it was never designed to handle. PeakCyber’s OT/ICS cyber security services help you understand your exposure and reduce it, without putting production or safety at risk.

Why OT security is different

OT and industrial control systems (ICS) are not just IT systems in a different building. Many components run for decades, cannot be patched on demand and speak industrial protocols that were built for reliability, not security. In OT, availability and safety come first, so standard IT security methods can cause real harm if applied without care.

That is why our OT work follows a safety-first approach: passive techniques wherever possible, close coordination with plant and operations teams, and testing only in agreed windows or in representative test environments.

What is an OT security assessment?

It is a structured review of the security of your industrial networks, control systems and the connections between them and the rest of your organization. We identify what you have, how it is connected, where the real risks are and what to fix first, and we explain the findings in terms that engineering and management teams both understand.

What we assess

  1. Asset discovery and visibility: a clear inventory of controllers, HMIs, engineering workstations, servers and network devices, built primarily through passive analysis
  2. Network architecture and segmentation: separation between IT, OT and the internet, based on models such as the Purdue Model and the zones and conduits concept
  3. IT/OT boundary: firewalls, DMZs, jump hosts and data flows between corporate and industrial networks
  4. Remote access: vendor and employee access paths, VPNs and shared accounts
  5. Industrial protocols and services: exposure and weaknesses in protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, OPC UA, PROFINET and others
  6. Control system configuration: PLCs, SCADA servers and HMIs, including default credentials, insecure settings and missing access controls
  7. Identity and access management: accounts, privileges and authentication in the OT environment
  8. Patching and vulnerability exposure: known weaknesses and compensating controls where patching is not possible
  9. Monitoring and detection: whether abnormal activity in OT would be noticed
  10. Backup, recovery and resilience: your ability to restore control systems after an incident

Our services

OT/ICS security assessment and risk review

A broad evaluation of your industrial environment, covering architecture, configuration, access and operational practices, with a prioritized improvement plan.

Safe OT penetration testing

Carefully scoped technical testing, focused on IT/OT boundaries, remote access paths and supporting systems, and on the control layer only where safe and agreed. Testing is coordinated with operations and uses non-disruptive techniques.

IT/OT segmentation and architecture review

An examination of how well your zones are separated and how an attacker or malware could move from corporate IT into the control network.

IEC 62443 and NIST SP 800-82 gap analysis

A comparison of your current controls against recognized industrial security standards and guidance, with a practical roadmap to close the gaps.

OT incident response tabletop exercise

A facilitated scenario for operations, engineering, IT and management teams to practice decisions during a cyber incident that affects production.

Our approach

  1. Scoping and safety planning. We agree on objectives, systems in scope, restrictions and safety rules together with your operations team.
  2. Information gathering. Document review, interviews and passive data collection to understand your processes and architecture.
  3. Assessment. Review of network, systems and access, plus agreed technical testing in safe conditions.
  4. Risk analysis. Findings are prioritized by their impact on safety, availability and production, not only technical severity.
  5. Reporting and roadmap. Clear recommendations that consider operational constraints, including short-term mitigations and longer-term improvements.
  6. Support and verification. Walkthrough sessions with your teams and retesting or review once improvements are made.

What you receive

  • An executive summary for management, focused on business and operational risk
  • Technical findings with evidence and clear explanations for engineers
  • An asset and network overview of what we observed
  • A prioritized remediation roadmap, with options that fit maintenance windows and operational limits
  • A debrief session with your OT, IT and security teams

Who needs it

Organizations that depend on industrial processes, including manufacturing, energy and utilities, oil and gas, water and wastewater, transportation and logistics, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, mining and building automation. It is also valuable for companies connecting plants to IT networks or the cloud, preparing for audits or regulation, or responding to customer and partner security requirements.

Frequently asked questions

1
Will testing disrupt our production?
Safety and availability come first. We rely on passive methods wherever possible, agree on every activity in advance and avoid disruptive techniques. Active testing of live control systems is done only when you approve it and conditions allow, and often in a test environment instead.
2
Do you need to connect to our control systems?
Not necessarily. Much of an assessment can be done through document review, interviews, configuration review and passive network monitoring. We discuss what is appropriate for your environment during scoping.
3
Is OT security the same as IT security?
No. The goals, constraints and tools differ. OT prioritizes safety and continuous operation, uses specialized equipment and protocols, and often cannot be patched or restarted freely. Effective OT security needs methods designed for that reality.
4
Can you help us align with IEC 62443?
Yes. We can assess where you stand against the standard, identify gaps and help you plan improvements. Formal certification is handled by accredited bodies.
5
Do you work with our existing vendors and integrators?
Yes. We coordinate with your equipment vendors, system integrators and operations teams so recommendations are practical and do not affect warranties or support agreements.
