Internal Network Penetration Testing

Perimeter defenses are only part of the story. Phishing, stolen credentials or a compromised laptop can put an attacker inside your network. What happens next depends on your internal security. PeakCyber’s internal network penetration testing measures how far an attacker could go once inside.

What is internal network penetration testing?

It is an authorized simulation of an attacker, or a malicious insider, who already has a foothold on your internal network. We try to escalate privileges, move laterally, reach sensitive systems and, in many environments, take over the domain, all within agreed safety boundaries.

Common starting points

  • A standard employee workstation connection
  • A compromised user account with low privileges
  • A guest, contractor or visitor network port
  • An assumed-breach scenario with provided access

What we test

  • Active Directory: weak configurations, credential attacks, delegation issues, certificate services and privilege escalation paths
  • Network services: outdated software, weak protocols, default credentials and exposed management interfaces
  • Credential exposure: passwords in shares, scripts and memory
  • Lateral movement: how easily an attacker can pivot between systems
  • Segmentation: whether critical systems are truly isolated
  • Endpoint and server hardening and patch management gaps
  • Data access: reachability of file shares, databases and backups
  • Detection: whether your team notices the activity

What you receive

  • Executive summary with business impact
  • Attack narratives showing how access was gained and escalated
  • Technical findings with evidence and reproduction steps
  • Prioritized remediation roadmap
  • Debrief and retesting

Frequently asked questions

1
Can this be done remotely?
Yes. We can test through a secure remote connection or a device placed on your network, as well as on site.
2
Will it disrupt operations?
We avoid disruptive techniques and coordinate timing and sensitive systems with you in advance.
3
What is assumed-breach testing?
You give us a typical user-level access and we test what an attacker could do from there. It is an efficient way to focus on internal risk.
