External Penetration Testing Services

Everything you expose to the internet is visible to attackers: web servers, VPN gateways, mail systems, remote access portals, forgotten subdomains and cloud endpoints. PeakCyber’s external penetration testing shows you what an attacker with no inside access could actually do, before a real attacker finds out.

What is external penetration testing?

External penetration testing is an authorized, controlled attack simulation against your internet-facing assets. Our consultants start from the same position as an outside attacker, map your exposed attack surface, and try to gain a foothold through vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, weak authentication and exposed services.

The goal is not a long list of scanner output. The goal is to show which weaknesses are real, how they can be chained together, and what they mean for your business.

What we test

  • Public IP ranges, domains and subdomains
  • Web servers, reverse proxies, firewalls and load balancers
  • VPN, remote desktop and other remote access services
  • Email infrastructure and DNS configuration
  • Exposed administration panels, databases and development environments
  • Leaked credentials, exposed secrets and information disclosure
  • Third-party and forgotten assets linked to your organization

Our approach

  1. Scoping and rules of engagement. We agree on targets, testing windows, and what is out of bounds.
  2. Reconnaissance and attack surface discovery. Passive and active discovery of assets, technologies and exposed services.
  3. Vulnerability identification. Automated scanning supported by manual verification to remove false positives.
  4. Exploitation. Controlled, manual exploitation to prove impact, such as unauthorized access or data exposure.
  5. Reporting and retesting. A clear report with prioritized fixes, followed by verification once you have remediated.

What you receive

  • An executive summary written for management
  • Technical findings with severity, evidence and reproduction steps
  • Prioritized, practical remediation guidance
  • A walkthrough session with our consultants
  • Retesting of fixed findings to confirm closure

Who needs it

Any organization with internet-facing systems: financial services, SaaS companies, e-commerce, healthcare, and enterprises preparing for audits or customer security reviews. We recommend running it at least annually and after major infrastructure changes.

Frequently asked questions

1
Will testing disrupt our services?
We agree on testing windows and use safe techniques. Anything that could affect availability is discussed with you beforehand.
2
How is this different from a vulnerability scan?
A scan lists potential issues automatically. A penetration test validates them manually, chains them together and shows real impact.
3
How long does it take?
It depends on the size of your external footprint. Most engagements are scoped in days to a few weeks. We provide an estimate after scoping.
