Mobile apps put your business in your customers’ pockets, along with their credentials, personal data and payment details. Unlike web apps, the app itself runs on a device you do not control, which means attackers can inspect it, modify it and attack its traffic. PeakCyber’s mobile application penetration testing examines the app, its device-side storage and the backend it talks to.
What is mobile application penetration testing?
It is a hands-on security assessment of your Android and iOS applications. We analyze the app binary, run it on instrumented devices, intercept its network traffic and test the supporting APIs, following the OWASP Mobile Application Security Verification Standard (MASVS) and Mobile Application Security Testing Guide (MASTG).
What we test
- Insecure data storage: credentials, tokens and personal data stored in files, databases, logs or backups
- Authentication and session handling: weak login flows, token handling and biometric bypass
- Network communication: TLS configuration, certificate pinning and traffic interception
- Reverse engineering resistance: hardcoded secrets, code tampering, repackaging and runtime manipulation
- Platform misuse: exported components, deep links, intents, URL schemes and permissions
- Backend APIs: authorization flaws and business logic issues in the services the app uses
- Third-party SDKs and libraries that introduce risk
Our approach
- Scoping, build and test account preparation
- Static analysis of the application package
- Dynamic analysis on rooted/jailbroken and standard devices
- Network and API testing
- Reporting, remediation support and retesting
What you receive
- Executive summary
- Technical findings mapped to OWASP MASVS categories
- Evidence, reproduction steps and remediation guidance
- Debrief with our consultants and retesting of fixed issues
