Cloud Infrastructure Penetration Testing

Cloud platforms move fast, and so do the mistakes. A public storage bucket, an over-privileged identity or a forgotten test environment can expose your most sensitive data. PeakCyber’s cloud infrastructure penetration testing shows how an attacker could move through your cloud environment, and what to fix first.

What is cloud penetration testing?

It is an authorized attack simulation against your cloud accounts, subscriptions and services. We go beyond a configuration checklist by actively attempting privilege escalation, lateral movement and data access, while respecting your cloud provider’s testing policies.

What we test

  • Identity and access management: over-privileged users, roles and service principals, and privilege escalation paths
  • Storage and data services: public buckets, exposed databases, snapshots and weak encryption settings
  • Compute and serverless: exposed instances, metadata service abuse, and function permissions
  • Network design: security groups, firewall rules, segmentation and exposed management ports
  • Secrets and keys: credentials in code, environment variables and parameter stores
  • Logging and detection: whether suspicious activity would actually be noticed
  • Multi-account and multi-tenant boundaries
  • Infrastructure as Code and pipelines that deploy your cloud resources

We work with AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, and reference provider best practices and the CIS Foundations Benchmarks.

Our approach

  1. Scoping, access setup and rules of engagement
  2. Enumeration of cloud assets and permissions
  3. Exploitation of misconfigurations and privilege escalation paths
  4. Impact demonstration, such as access to sensitive data
  5. Reporting with prioritized remediation and retesting

What you receive

  • Executive summary
  • Attack paths with evidence
  • Prioritized, provider-specific remediation guidance
  • Debrief and retest

Frequently asked questions

1
Do we need permission from our cloud provider?
Major providers allow testing of your own resources under their policies. We will confirm the requirements for your scope.
2
Is this the same as a cloud configuration review?
A review compares settings to a baseline. A penetration test shows what an attacker can actually achieve with them.
